Mumbai: Under the Electric Vehicle Policy, the government has approved to extend the limit of quick registration exemption from 31st December 2021 to 31st March 2022. In addition, vehicles purchased through government and semi-government bodies as well as local bodies from January 1, 2022, should be battery electric vehicles. Also, from 1st April 2022, all the vehicles leased for government use will be battery-electric, it has been clarified in this regard.

The state has announced the electric vehicle policy as per the ruling dated July 23, 2021. A variety of incentives have been announced in the policy to boost the purchase of electric vehicles. This includes a quick registration discount. It has also been decided that all government, semi-government, local self-governing bodies and vehicles procured from government funds operating from 1st April 2022 should be battery electric vehicles.

Following the announcement of the Electric Vehicle Policy, the policy is being implemented in coordination with various departments and agencies concerned. But due to some unavoidable reasons, the expected registration has not taken place so far. Therefore, it has been decided to extend the period of registration exemption immediately.
